INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP

WEDNESDAYS 6-8PM, APRIL 16-MAY 21

This class is the vital first step for any photographer interested in jumping the digital divide and learning about the basics of digital darkroom techniques. Through demonstrations and hands-on exercises during the six classes, you will be lead through the steps of how to work with the basics of Photoshop.

Lessons will cover a range of topics including selections, layers, image modes, tonal and color correction, paths, filters/special effects and file formats (i.e. JPEG, TIFF). In addition, you will receive an overview on scanning film negatives & prints, ink jet printing, workflow and the importance of color calibration technology.  All students will leave with a sound foundation to move forward in the digital realm.

CHAD KLEITSCH has 20 years of printing experience in both color and B&W and is sought after for his digital printing and scanning skills. He has printed for such photographers as Lynn Davis & Larry Fink. Kleitsch exhibits in NYC, as well as upstate NY. He has lectured at Yale University and Sarah Lawrence College and in addition has taught at Bard and La Guardia College. His work has been in Bystander: A History Of Street Photography by Joel Meyerowitz, and reviewed in the New York Times, the New Yorker, Time Out, Albany Times Union, and Fortune Magazine.  You can learn more about Chad by visiting www.chadphoto.com

SEAN NIXON is a practicing designer and studio artist.  He is currently Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Graphic Design Program at SUNY Ulster in Stone Ridge, NY.  He holds a MFA Photography and Computers from the School of Visual Arts in NYC.  He has taught on the college level, and private industry over 14 years with a concentration in Photographic image manipulation and design layout. WEB DESIGN FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

Do you want to learn how to make your own online portfolio! Are you seeking to control your own “on-line presence”? Experienced web designer and photographer Dina Pearlman will show you how. Using the power of Adobe's Creative Suite and Dreamweaver, the mysteries of web design will begin to unravel.

 

With simple exercises, demonstrations and instructions, workshop participants will come away from this six-week program with a simple, self-designed website showcasing their work. Topics included will be image compression and basic design principals using Photoshop, the power of Dreamweaver's design mode and how to get it all up and running on the world wide web.

 

DINA PEARLMAN successfully bridged the gap between analog and digital media and has worked as a designer, photographer and web developer since 1988. She has also worked as a darkroom technician, printer and graphic designer.  Currently, she teaches Computer Art and Web Design at SUNY Ulster, the Ulster County's Business Resource Center, and has her own freelance business, wordimagemedia.   • Payment is due in full at time of registration (to download a registration form, click here)

  • Individual registration is subject to a one time registration fee of $40 which is non-refundable. Registrations fees for Spring Classes are transferable to CPW’s Summer/Fall Workshop program.  

  • Tuition and Lab Fee is 100% refundable with written notice up to  3 weeks prior to the start of the first class.  

  • Registered participants in CPW’s Spring offerings receive a complimentary 12 hours of digital lab used during scheduled open lab hours which are to be used to address class assignments and/or for your own use after you have completed the course.
