On Thursday, November 17, we will be joined by current artists-in-residence Elias Williams and Daniella Zalcman for Meet the Artists night at CPW. Both artists will discuss their recent and ongoing work followed by a short Q&A session.
Thursdays at CPW will feature illuminating talks with different local and visiting artists with an evening of “Meet the Artists”. Join us from 5:30-7:30 pm to introduce yourself to new work, explore artists’ processes, and meet other local artists. Coffee and tea will be provided. Meet the Artists will take place at CPW’s facilities at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY, and is free and open to the public.
About the Artists
Elias Williams is a photographer born, raised, and working in New York City. Through long-term portrait-based projects he celebrates historically underrepresented communities referencing lived experiences through the nuances of music, pride, race, and resilience. His clients include Instagram, The New York Times, The New Yorker, National Geographic, NPR, Time, and The Wall Street Journal. His work has been exhibited in the Morris Museum, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the International Photo Festival Leiden, and the Photoville Festival. Williams is also a 2017 Magnum Foundation Photography and Social Justice Fellow, a 2017 recipient of the Bronx Council on the Art’s Bronx Recognizes Its Own award, a participant in the 2020 World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass, and a 2022 Center of Photography at Woodstock Artist-in-residence.
Daniella Zalcman is a Vietnamese-American documentary photographer based in New Orleans, LA. She is a 2021 Catchlight Fellow, a multiple grantee of the National Geographic Society and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, a fellow with the International Women’s Media Foundation, and the founder of Women Photograph, a nonprofit working to elevate the voices of women and nonbinary visual journalists.
Her work tends to focus on the legacies of western colonization, from the rise of homophobia in East Africa to the forced assimilation education of Indigenous children in North America. Her ongoing project, Signs of Your Identity, is the recipient of the Arnold Newman Prize, a Robert F Kennedy Journalism Award, the FotoEvidence Book Award, the Magnum Foundation’s Inge Morath Award, and part of Open Society Foundation’s Moving Walls 24.
