This summer CPW will host an exhibition of photography that poses the earnest, if unsettling question:
Is home still a safe place?
In the long shadow of the pandemic, our ideas of home have mutated. While we were sheltering in place, cultural wildfires raged and our social fabric began to fray. Our institutions failed to prevent the return of autocracy. Now, as the scale of our polycrisis becomes clear, algorithms flood the zone with nostalgia and misinformation.
The twelve artists gathered here explore ways our domestic sphere has been infiltrated by unreliable narratives. Through a variety of strategies, this artwork tears apart the visual conventions of politics and commerce, arriving at strange new ways to depict home and tradition. Rummaging among tattered heirlooms, these artists struggle to remember the moment when everything went wrong, and dream about where we might go from here.
Give Me One Good Reason for Leaving the House is curated by Colin Beattie, in an exploration of ways artists can collaboratively create exhibition contexts for their work when resources are growing scarce..
The exhibition will be open from August 15 to September 13. An opening reception will be held in the gallery from 3PM – 5PM on August 15th.

About the Community Gallery:
CPW’s Community Gallery is a new space dedicated to fostering connections between diverse local communities using photography. It will host a rotating schedule of short-run exhibitions featuring work by CPW members, local artist collectives, student groups, and projects by local nonprofit organizations. CPW is committed to being a welcoming hub for critical and creative explorations of photography from varied perspectives.
