On Thursday, June 12, we welcome Diana Guerra and Lianne Milton (current Woodstock AIRs) to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Guerra will present her photographic series ‘Fleeting Under Light’ (2018 – ongoing) and screen her short film ‘Greetings from Rosita aus Peru Brooklyn’ (2024). Both works explore photographic archives by reflecting on identity and belonging as fluid, impermanent, and context-dependent, while also embodying a deliberate intention to decolonize the archives—a form of soft resistance to dominant narratives and historical erasures. She will have some copies of ‘Fleeting Under Light’ for sale throughout the evening. Milton will present an overview of her career as a documentary photographer and photojournalist, as well as what she’s been working on most recently.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 25 Dederick Street in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served.

Diana Guerra is a Peruvian American lens-based artist and educator currently based in New York. Her work revolves around themes of memory, belonging, and identity (re)construction, from the perspective of a woman of color navigating displacement. She received an MFA in Digital and Interdisciplinary Art Practice from the City College of New York and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Guerra’s early training in photography was at Parsons School of Design, New York as part of the MFA Photography program. Selected solo and group exhibitions include the Museum of the City of New York, NY; Mana Contemporary, New Jersey, NJ; Penumbra Foundation, New York, NY; Der Greif, Berlin, Germany; Photoville, New York, NY; The Clemente Cultural and Educational Center, New York, NY; Bronx Kreate Hub, New York, NY; PH21 Gallery, Budapest, Hungary; and Espacio Cavallero, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Guerra received the AIM Bronx Museum Fellowship and the SPCUNY Faculty Fellowship in 2024, and the En Foco Photography Fellowship in 2022. She has been an artist in residence at Hangar, Center of Artistic Research, Lisbon, Portugal; and Wassaic Project, Dutchess, NY. Guerra is currently an Adjunct at The City College of New York, NY.
A documentary photographer, journalist, and educator, Lianne Milton’s photographic work investigates environmental issues, human rights, and cultural narratives in contemporary society. For two decades, Lianne has photographed throughout Latin America and Southeast Asia for international news publications, editorial magazines, peer-reviewed journals, and NGOs. Based in Brazil from 2013-2019, her photography brought global attention to the World Cup protests, Zika crisis, northeastern drought, the Bolsonaro elections, and security issues in the favelas. In 2014, Lianne served as a Sony Global Imaging Ambassador in South America.
Selected awards and exhibitions include the National Press Photographers Foundation Grant, IWMF Fellowship, Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting Grant, Yves Rocher Foundation Environmental Photography Award, Harvey Milk Photo Center, Photo Festival La Gacilly, Photoville, Visa Pour L’Image, and the African American History Museum in Washington, DC. Lianne holds a BA in Journalism from San Francisco State University and an MFA in Studio Arts from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently an adjunct assistant professor of photography and teaching artist in Philadelphia, Lianne continues working on long-form projects in Brazil.
