On Thursday, March 21, we welcome Judit German-Heins to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. German-Heins will be sharing her past projects in which she made portraits of refugees and women who cover their head for religious purposes. She will also be discussing her recent MFA thesis work titled A Monster In The Shape of A Woman, which deals with her personal experience in the world of patriarchy. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s YouTube Page at 6 pm.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.
Judit German-Heins is a Hungarian-American photographer who resides in Kingston, NY. She received her MFA in Photography and Integrated Media at Lesley University College of Art and Design in 2023. She creates handmade images using historical photographic processes, which connects her main interests in humanity, politics and history. Her images and portfolios have been awarded by the New York Center for Photography, the Worldwide Photography Gala Awards, The Houston Center for Photography, the Gallery Photographica, and Photographers’ Forum Magazine. She was a Critical Mass finalist in 2023 and 2019. Numerous of her works were selected for juried group shows in Houston, New York, Spain and Germany. Her article “Tintype Portraits: A 19th Century Process Documents 21st Century Society” was published in the October 2018 issue of The Big Photo Zine.
During 2024 Judit will take portraits of women in Upstate New York, whose work is related to the Erie Canal, as an Artist in Resident for the Erie Canal Museum. Her tintypes will pay tribute to women workers during the construction of the Erie Canal and also to those who fought for women’s rights starting from the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848.
