On Thursday, October 12, we welcome Lindsay Buchman of Seaton Street Press and Magali Duzant to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Buchman will be presenting introductory images contextualizing her publishing practice as Seaton Street Press through its relationship to site, language, and memory. Followed by a discussion with Magali Duzant, who will be presenting work from her upcoming book, La Vie is Like That. The book will be released with the press in spring 2024. Both artists will have books for sale throughout the evening! This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s Youtube Page at 6 pm.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.
Lindsay Buchman is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and publisher living and working in Hudson, NY. Her work explores image-making and writing through print and lens-based media, artist books, and installation. Buchman holds an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and a BFA from California State University Long Beach. Exhibitions of her work include the LA Art Book Fair at The Geffen Contemporary, MOCA; New York Art Book Fair, MoMA PS1; Tokyo Art Book Fair, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo; SPRINT Milano, Spazio Maiocchi; and TILT Institute for the Contemporary Image. Her work is included in the Rare Book Manuscript & Library at the University of Pennsylvania, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, the New York Public Library, and SFMOMA. She is a recipient of the Toby Devan Lewis Fellowship and the Flaherty Fellowship, and her work has been featured in Hyperallergic and The Hopper Prize Journal. Buchman is a 2023-24 Keyholder Resident at the Lower East Side Printshop and a Visiting Artist-in-Residence at Skidmore College. As an extension of her practice, she runs an independent artists’ books and publications project, Seaton Street Press, to collaborate with artists through publishing and distribution. Seaton St. publishes and distributes titles that examine the intersections of site, language, and memory, including archival histories, social identities, and geographies.
Magali Duzant is an artist and writer based in New York and Zurich. Working in photography, text, publications, and installation, she has created commissioned public works for Memorial Sloan Kettering, Supercollider, ABC No Rio, and Artists Alliance Inc. Her work has been widely exhibited, most recently at Antenna Gallery (New Orleans), Olympia (New York), the Queens Museum (New York); Centre for Contemporary Photography (Melbourne, Australia); Little Berlin (Philadelphia); UQO Gallery (Montreal, Canada); the 2018 Mardin Biennial (Turkey); and Gillman Barracks (Singapore). Residencies and grants include NARS Foundation (New York), Studio Verde (Italy), NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and Parramatta Artists Studio (Australia). She is a regular contributor to LensCulture, writing about photography and artist books. Her writing has also appeared in The Syllabus Project, Passing Notes, Rocket Science Magazine, and Mercuria amongst others. Her work is included in the collections of the Franklin Furnace Archive, Yale University Fine Arts Library, and the Library of the San Francisco Museum of Art. She has published four artist books, including Light Blue Desire and The Moon & Stars Can Be Yours with Conveyor Editions and The Dry Garden in conjunction with a solo exhibition at Antenna. Her upcoming book, La Vie is Like That, will be released by Seaton Street Press in spring 2024.
