On Thursday, July 25, we welcome Maude Arsenault to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Arsenault will discuss her journey and process as an artist-mother-photographer, specifically delving into her process of creating her two recent photo books. She will have books available for sale throughout the night. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s YouTube page at 6pm.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.
Maude Arsenault, photographer, artist and mother, invests in her work the themes of female representation within the framework of a photographic and formal approach which oscillates between abstract compositions, self-portraits, landscapes and documentary images. She explores from image work, collage, sculpture and installation. In doing so, her projects deploy unexpected spaces of the bodies, with a perspective of self-determination for women. Arsenault has showed exhibitions in Canada, Europe, Japan and the United States. She has published two acclaimed photography books, Entangled (2020) and Resurfacing (2023) with independent publisher Deadbeatclub from Los Angeles. Entangled has been featured at numerous international exhibitions and was a finalist for Photography Book of the Year at Singapore Photography Festival (2020) and FELIFA Buenos Aires (2021). Resurfacing was recently launched in November 2023 and was selected as best photographic book at Paris Photo 2023 by Italian critic, Luca Fiore, from Il Giornale Dell’aArte. Arsenault won the prestigious international Hariban Grand Prize in Japan in 2020 and in 2024 she is nominated as one of the photographers of the year for the international Leica Oskar Barnack Award. The artist holds a degree in Art History and a Master’s Degree in Visual and Media Arts from University of Quebec in Montreal. She is the recipient of the prestigious Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Scholarship in Contemporary Arts 2023, Yvonne L. Bombardier Visual Arts grant 2021, UQAM Women’s Center scholarship 2020 and several grants from Quebec and Canada Councils for the Arts.
