“Meet the Artist”

On Thursday, May 18, we welcome Nadia Sablin to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Sablin will present her decade-long project documenting life in a Russian village titled Years Like Water. In this project she followed families, as they fell in and out of abject poverty, small entrepreneurial efforts sprouting atop rotting Soviet infrastructure, children growing up and becoming parents themselves, and elders struggling to grasp current reality. Sablin will have books available for purchase.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.
Nadia Sablin (b. Russia, 1980) is a photographer, whose work explores the relationship between documentary and fictional storytelling, looking at the larger world through intimate narratives. She is a Guggenheim fellow and has published books with Duke University Press and Dewi Lewis. She teaches at SUNY New Paltz.
