“Meet the Artist” with Rebecca Conroy

Thursday, October 9, 2025
Doors at 5:30 pm. Artist talk at 6 pm.
25 Dederick Street, Kingston, NY

On Thursday, October 9, we welcome Rebecca Conroy to “Meet the Artist.” Rebecca will present photos from the last five years of work she has made with girls who have grown up around each other in the Hudson Valley. The clothing and props in the shoots are all vintage and/or from local designers, and the locations are places that feel somehow lost in time. The body of work walks the line between both documentary and staged. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s YouTube page at 6pm.

Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 25 Dederick Street in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.

Rebecca Conroy grew up between in Chicago and New York City, and her work is informed by the rich visual elements found in her immediate surroundings as a girl. During her high school years at LaGuardia School for the Arts in NYC, cartooning and watercoloring were her favorite forms of art, and she took summer painting classes at the Art Institute of Chicago that deepened her understanding of setting and color. Using a polaroid camera during this time and staging vignettes with props and actors thrilled Rebecca, and led to her decades-long love of photography and visual storytelling. She majored in Film at Hampshire College and got an MFA in Film from Columbia University School of the Arts. Raising her daughter in the Hudson Valley inspired her to create a body of artwork incorporating the bygone, aged locations in the area.
