June 29, 2023
5:30 – 7:30 pm
474 Broadway, Kingston, NY
On Thursday, June 29, we welcome Phlegm as well as Cora Lautze & Julian Wellisz who comprise What Editions to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. What Editions is a New Orleans based print-production studio. They will be sharing about their collaborative process, including in progress works in collaboration with Phlegm. Phlegm will screen their most recent video work. This talk will be live-streamed on CPW’s Youtube Page.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.

Cora Lautze and Julian Wellisz comprise What Editions – a New Orleans based print-production studio that educates emerging artists about the medium, collaborates with them to produce a limited edition print series, and curates the work for local galleries.

Ryan “phlegm” Gilbert is a New Orleans born and based multidisciplinary artist who works in face painting and self portraiture. He is inspired by Black cultural tone from across the diaspora; pulling inspiration from the Black Masking Indians of New Orleans, the Dogon of Mali, the Fulani of Nigeria, and the Zouli dance of Ivory Coast. Through what he calls “ritual dramas” he attempts to connect all of the pieces of his Black ethos into a singular point. Using intentional color pallets , materials, and symbolic objects to reference themes of cosmic time, spirit, joy and solace.
