“Meet the Artist”

On Thursday, June 1, we welcome Yael Eban and Matthew Gamber to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Eban and Gamber will present images from their project Marbre Vivant, as well as discuss their process as collaborators and how they began working together. Following the presentation they will also be giving a sneak peek of the upcoming book Dead Ringer, published by TBW Books and scheduled to be released later this summer.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.
Yael Eban is a visual artist working primarily with the medium of photography. Her work investigates photography’s role in visual culture. Eban is a 2022 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow in Photography. Her work has been exhibited most recently at Turley Gallery (Hudson, NY), Hilbert Raum (Berlin), Abakus Projects (Boston, MA), and Form & Concept (Santa Fe). Eban has attended several residencies including MASS MoCA, Wassaic Project, and Vermont Studio Center. She recently served as co-director of Tiger Strikes Asteroid, a non-profit network of artist-run spaces, and is a curating member of the organization. She also exhibits work as part of the collaborative duo Eban & Gamber. She is based in the Hudson Valley.
Yael Eban and Matthew Gamber’s collaborative and multidisciplinary practice investigates the role of photography in material culture, specifically focusing on mass reproduction. Both artists have worked in photography archives, which greatly informs their artistic endeavors. They are based in Austerlitz, NY.
Matthew Gamber is the recipient of an Individual Photographer’s Fellowship from the Aaron Siskind Foundation, an Artist’s Resource Trust Grant from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, a Traveling Fellowship from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and a Blanche E. Colman Award. Gamber is an Associate Professor of Photography and New Media in the Department of Visual Arts at the College of the Holy Cross, having previously worked on archive and digitization projects with Harvard University and the Boston Public Library for Digital Commonwealth. He also exhibits work as part of the collaborative duo Eban & Gamber.
