On Thursday, March 30, we welcome Ben Brody and Jason Koxvold to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Both Brody and Koxvold’s work centers on themes of war and capital, with Brody presenting on how his narrative has evolved from 2005 – 2022 and Koxvold presenting on two upcoming book projects titled ENGAGE & DESTROY and CEASE BUZZER. Brody and Koxvold will have books available to purchase. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s Facebook page just before the start time.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.
Ben Brody is an independent photographer, educator, and picture editor working on long-form projects related to the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their aftermath. He is the Director of Photography for The GroundTruth Project and Report for America, and a co-founder of Mass Books. His first book, Attention Servicemember, was shortlisted for the 2019 Aperture – Paris Photo First Book Award and is now in its second edition. His latest book, 300m, is a panoramic journey through the height of the American war in Afghanistan, framed in the context of the fall of Kabul and the ties that remain with friends and colleagues who currently live under Taliban rule. Ben holds an MFA from Hartford Art School’s International Low-Residency Photography program and resides in western Massachusetts.
Jason Koxvold is a mixed media artist based in Portland, OR with a focus on the intersection of capital and violence. He holds a BSc in Social Science from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and has worked for fifteen years on a series of long-term projects that combine studio practice and installation works with photographs made across the globe, in places like Arctic Russia, South Africa, Afghanistan and Nigeria. He has published three books: Knives, You Were Right All Along, and Calle Tredici Martiri (Alley of the Thirteen Martyrs). Koxvold is also the founder of Gnomic Book, an imprint focused on developing challenging projects by emerging and mid-career artists in small, high-quality editions.
