The Center for Photography at Woodstock is pleased to announce that artist Kelli Connell will be hosting a book signing on Saturday, November 27, celebrating the end of the exhibition Kelli Connell: Double Life, 20 Years. No appointment is necessary, Covid-19 restrictions will apply with face masks being required to enter the gallery.
The Center for Photography at Woodstock is pleased to announce the exhibition, Kelli Connell: Double Life, 20 Years.
Photographer Kelli Connell’s twenty-year project with one model represents an autobiographical questioning of sexuality and gender roles that shape the identity of the self in intimate relationships. The project’s multiyear span opens up new dialogues on women and aging and explores polarities of identity such as the masculine and feminine psyche, the irrational and rational self, the exterior and interior self, and the motivated and resigned. By combining multiple photographic negatives of the same model in each image, the dualities of the self are defined by body language and clothing. The importance of these images lies in the representation of interior dilemmas portrayed as an external object: a photograph. ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kelli Connell is an artist whose work investigates sexuality, gender, identity and photographer/sitter relationships. Her work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the J Paul Getty Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography, among others. Publications of her work include PhotoWork: Forty Photographers on Process and Practice (Aperture), Photo Art: The New World of Photography (Aperture), and the monograph Kelli Connell: Double Life (DECODE Books). Connell has received fellowships from The MacDowell Colony, PLAYA, Peaked Hill Trust, LATITUDE, Light Work, and The Center for Creative Photography. Connell is a publisher at SKYLARK Editions and also teaches at Columbia College Chicago.

Double Life: A Panel Discussion with Artist Kelli Connell
The Alice Austin House presents Double Life: a virtual panel discussion with artist Kelli Connell and model Kiba Jacobson. Connell and Jacobson will discuss their process and the recent images created on-site at the Alice Austen House.
They will be joined by curators Victoria Munro as moderator and Hannah Frieser representing the Center for Photography at Woodstock where the exhibition Double Life: 20 Years is now on view post the inaugural 2021 exhibition at the Alice Austen House.

Kelli Connell’s exhibition will be on view in CPW’s main gallery through November 27. Carla Shapiro’s exhibition, Rewriting Loss, will be on view concurrently through October 10 in CPW’s Kodak Gallery.
CPW’s exhibitions are free and open to the public due to the continued support from the New York State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Art, Joy of Giving Something, the Phillip and Edith Leonian Foundation, our members and other supporters.
This exhibitions will be viewable as a virtual walkthrough via Matterport, made possible with funds from the NYSCA Electronic Media/Film in Partnership with Wave Farm: Media Arts Assistance Fund, with the support of the New York State’s Governor’s Office and the New York State Legislature.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the covid-19 pandemic, CPW gallery is open to walk-in visitors on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 12 noon – 4pm. A covid-19 safety protocol applies.
