Artist Talk
Doug Menuez
Saturday, July 16, 6:00 pm
Rezny Gallery, 76 Prince Street, Kingston

The Center for Photography at Woodstock (CPW) invites you to join an artist talk with noted photographer Doug Menuez and reception to celebrate the closing of his exhibition Wild Place: People of Kingston. Menuez will discuss his unique documentary photography and his approach to the exhibition. The talk will be followed by an audience discussion moderated by Barry Mayo, CPW board co-president.

Also on view will be a special exhibition showcasing photography by students who participated in a three-week youth program conducted by Doug Menuez. With Menuez’s instruction and guidance, each student created their own long-term documentary photo project that will be available to view from July 14 to 17 at CPW’s new facilities at 474 Broadway.

Attendance is free and open to the public.

About the exhibition
Wild Place: People of Kingston
Each week, Kingston grows with new arrivals, young people, families, and retirees arriving from other areas throughout the United States. But as Kingston relishes its newfound revitalization, local neighborhoods struggle with the rising challenges of gentrification and income disparity. Wild Place: People of Kingston shares the stories of a diverse range of people who call Kingston their home and serve as a continuation of the extensive dialogue that exists locally about the challenges ahead. Wild Place: People of Kingston was guest curated by Charles Guice, co-founder of Converging Perspectives, art advisor, curator, mentor, and writer.

About the artist
Doug Menuez is an American photographer, director, and artist whose varied career over 40 years has ranged from photojournalism to commissioned work, documentary, and fine art projects. His methodology has since evolved to employ a traditional documentary approach that allows for intuitive investigation. The driving concern behind all his work is to explore and reflect the realities of the human condition.
