December 1, 2022
5:30 – 7:30 pm
474 Broadway, Kingston, NY

On Thursday, December 1, we will be joined by Hudson Valley-based photographer Barry Mayo for Meet the Artist night at CPW from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Mayo will give a talk followed by a brief Q&A session.

Thursdays at CPW will feature illuminating talks with different local and visiting artists with an evening of Meet the Artist. Join us from 5:30-7:30 pm to introduce yourself to new work, explore artists’ processes, and meet other local artists. Coffee and tea will be provided. Meet the Artists will take place at CPW’s facilities at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY, and is free and open to the public.

About the Artist:

Barry Mayo‘s fine-art photographs focus primarily on the natural interplay of light and shadow. In many of his images, the stark contrast of both his black and white imagery highlights his study of social, visual, and emotional juxtapositions. His work explores racial themes, ideas around presence and absence, and cultural dilemmas found in science and faith.

Mayo grew up in the 60s, during the tail end of the Jim Crow era. In third grade, he helped integrate a New York City public school. Living in both a Black and a White world has provided Mayo with a means for self-exploration and an ongoing study of race relations in the United States –  but always viewed through the prism of personal relationships.

Mayo has served on the boards of numerous educational institutions including Vice-Chair of the World of Money.org, an organization teaching financial education and philanthropy to young people in the New York City metro area. He has also served as Co-President of the board for the Center for Photography at Woodstock. Mayo currently is a board member of the Reher Center in Kingston and recently joined the Advisory Board of the Dorsky Museum in New Paltz. Mayo is a father and a proud grandfather of three, a rabid Jazz fan, and a circumnavigator who makes his home in Stone Ridge in the magnificent Hudson Valley of New York State.

Meet the Artist is actively taking proposals. Please mail education@cpw.org with inquiries and for additional information. A special thank you to Radio Kingston for live streaming this event.
