On Thursday, December 8, we will be joined by New York-based artists Jiatong Lu and Sara J Winston for Meet the Artist night at CPW. Lu and Winston will present their work, which centers on their experiences with chronic illness. Following the presentations will be a brief Q&A session.
Thursdays at CPW will feature illuminating talks with different local and visiting artists with an evening of Meet the Artist. Join us from 5:30-7:30 pm to introduce yourself to new work, explore artists’ processes, and meet other local artists. Coffee and tea will be provided. Meet the Artists will take place at CPW’s facilities at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY, and is free and open to the public.
About the Artists:
Jiatong Lu is a mixed-media artist and photographer based in New York. Born in 1988, she grew up in Northwest China and graduated with an MFA in Photography, Video, and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts. Rooted in her own growth experiences, her work primarily focuses on the subjects of family, trauma, personal memory, and historical memory, and explores the inter-relationships among them. In her current project, she has turned to the theme of Lyme and Tick-borne disease, focusing on the plight of people living with chronic Lyme and Tick-borne illness. Lu received a 2019 NYFA Artist Fellowship in Photography from The New York Foundation for the Arts. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in the United States, China, and Italy.
Sara J. Winston is an artist based in the Hudson Valley region of New York. She works with photographs, text, and book forms to describe and respond to chronic illness and its impact on her body, mind, family, and memory. Winston is the author of A Lick and a Promise, published in 2017 by Candor Arts, and Homesick in 2015 by Zatara Press. She has contributed work to several publications, including Return to the Field, published in 2021 by Wendy’s Subway.
Winston works as the Photography Program Coordinator at Bard College, is on the Penumbra Foundation Long Term Photobook Program faculty, and is a contributor to Lenscratch and the Photo Eye Blog. Winston earned her MFA from Columbia College Chicago in 2014 and has book projects forthcoming with Skylark Editions, Molto Molto, National Monument Press, Push Pull Editions, and For the Birds Trapped in Airports.
