“Meet the Artist”

On Thursday, May 25, we welcome Pam Connolly and Lothar Osterburg for “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Both artists will be presenting works focused on the theme of “home”, with Connolly presenting works from the series Wishmaker, a series of photographs of tin dollhouses from the 1960s, and Osterburg presenting works from his last two solo shows, Winterwunderkammer and The Long Way In. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s Youtube Page just before the start time.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.
Pam Connolly has been photographing the theme of home for more than 30 years. Her tin dollhouses, family portraits, and photographs of domestic spaces look closely at the American dream and the yearning between the imaginary and the real.
Connolly’s photographs belong to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and Brown University collections. Her recent artist book, ‘Fly in Amber’ belongs in the Hirsch Library, Houston, and the University of Michigan’s Art and Design Collection. She has exhibited her work nationally at the Ogden Museum in New Orleans, Foley Gallery in NYC, and Candela Gallery in Richmond, VA., and internationally at the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Kominek Gallery in Berlin.
Connolly received an MFA in Photography from the Hartford Art School’s International Limited-Residency Program (2014).
Lothar Osterburg is known as artist, master printer and teacher of copperplate photogravure. He completed art school at the Art Academy Braunschweig in Germany and received his training as Master Printer at Crown Point Press in San Francisco. He has shown internationally and has worked in major collections. Awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, an Academy Award in Art; from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, two New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships, and a Jordan Schnitzer Award for Excellence in Printmaking. He teaches at Bard College, NY.
Working from memory, Osterburg creates small-scale models, which he stages to photograph up close. The scenes are thus brought to life-size dimensions and printed in the 19th-century photographic process of copperplate photogravure.
