“Meet the Artist”

On Thursday, August 10, we welcome Camille Lenain and Meg Turner to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Camille will present her ongoing project “Made Of Smokeless Fire”, a body of work using portraiture, personal testimonies and archives, exploring queer and Muslim identities in France. Meg will present her new photo book WET, which she will also have for sale that evening. Drawing on a history of queer magazines, southern photograph, roadside signage and 1980’s high fashion photography, Turner celebrates her chosen family and community, shooting mostly in New Orleans, Louisiana and New York City. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s Youtube Page just before the start time.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.
Camille Farrah Lenain is a French-Algerian documentary and portrait photographer who grew up in Paris, studied Photography at l’ESA in Brussels and at ICP in New York City (virtual). She relocated to New Orleans in 2013, where she teaches at Tulane University and works on long-term projects with a focus on empathetic portraiture, exploring the notions of stereotypes, collective memory and plural identities.
Meg Turner is a printmaker, photographer and installation artist specializing in analog modes of printing and photography. She is particularly interested in the history of photomechanical processes used in mass image production, from photogravure and wet plate collodion to off-set lithography, silkscreen and digital publication. Her work and portraiture show the world through a queer maximalist lens. Meg received her B.F.A. in printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008 and M.F.A. from Columbia University in 2016 where she was a Leroy Neimen Center for Print Studies Print Fellow. Turner moved to New Orleans in 2009 and currently teaches printmaking at Tulane University.
