On Thursday, October 5, we welcome Allie Tsubota and Yael Malka (CPW artists in residence) to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Both artists will be sharing their recent projects, as well as discussing the overlaps and complementary interests within both of their practices. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s Youtube Page at 6 pm.
Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.
Yael Malka received The 30 Photographers Award (AKA PDN 30) which is given to 30 nominated photographers worldwide annually and authored The Views, published by TIS Books, in 2021. The concepts that drive her work oscillate between relationships and intimacy, language, the ways we mark time, and history etched onto landscapes. Solo shows include Where’s the Invitation at The Leslie-Lohman Museum and Almost Touching at The Rubber Factory, and group exhibitions at The Brooklyn Museum Library, Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, Sikkema Jenkins, ArtBridge and Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center, among others. She is one-third of the artist initiative Memory Foam and with her collaborators creates installations, curates exhibitions & programming, produces an artist interview video series, and publishes zines. Yael is currently working on a book about queer dancers set to be published by Chronicle books in Spring 2024. She is currently an artist in residence at the Center for Photography at Woodstock. Her book, The Views, was recently acquired by MoMA. Yael is from the Bronx, NY and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY and received her BFA in photography and a minor in art history from Pratt Institute. She photographs commissions for publications like the New York Times, The New Yorker, Vogue and The Atlantic.
Allie Tsubota (she/her) is an artist exploring intersections of race, visuality, and the formation of historical memory. Her work joins photography, video, photographic and filmic archives, and text to examine the role of photographic spectatorship across racialized space and collapsed historical time. Tsubota has received recognitions from Aperture, Google’s Creator Lab, The Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, and Silver Eye, among others, and has been an artist-in-residence with Headlands Center for the Arts and ARCUS Project (Japan). Her first solo exhibition was recently on view at TILT Institute for the Contemporary Image in Philadelphia, PA. Tsubota holds an MFA in Photography from Rhode Island School of Design. She presently teaches photography at Parsons School of Design and The College of New Jersey.
