“Meet the Artist” with Odette England

On Thursday, April 11, we welcome Odette England to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. England will present three of her most recent photography projects: Dairy Character (2021, Saint Lucy Books), The Long Shadow (2024, Libraryman), and To Be Developed, To Be Continued (2024, Tall Poppy Press). Each project highlights different ways of picture-making to discuss gender relations, reproductive labor, domestic rituals, and homesickness. She will have copies of her books Dairy Character and Keeper of the Hearth available for sale and signing.

Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served. “Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.

Odette England’s work has been exhibited worldwide in over 115 museums and galleries. Her photographs and books are in major public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art. England is a 2022 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow and a recipient of the Ansel Adams Research Fellowship at the CCP in Arizona. She has also received grants and awards from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Puffin Foundation, PhMuseum, RISCA, and Anonymous Was a Woman, among many others. England has published four award-winning books, including Dairy Character, winner of the 2021 Light Work Book Award and shortlisted for the Australian Photobook of the Year. She has two books coming out in 2024: The Long Shadow (Libraryman), which received a publishing support grant from Polycopies & Co, and To Be Developed, To Be Continued, winner of the Tall Poppy Press Award. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2012, received her Ph.D. from the Australian National University in 2018, and has since held visiting lecturer and artist fellowship positions at Amherst College, Brown University, and Bucknell University.
