On Thursday, August 20, we welcome Gabriel Martinez and Felicita Maynard (Woodstock AIRs) to “Meet the Artist”. Martinez will present various aspects of his ongoing “Queer Eclipse” project, focusing on recent works currently on view for his solo exhibition Sites of Encounter at Rivalry Projects, Buffalo, NY. Maynard’s presentation will explore their work as an artist and community archivist. They will discuss their series “Ole Dandy, the Tribute” and “With each day, I get closer to home”. This event will be live-streamed on CPW’s YouTube page at 6pm.
Join us on select Thursday evenings at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 25 Dederick Street in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served.

Gabriel Martinez is a Philly photo-based multidisciplinary artist, born and raised in Miami, Florida. His work explores the intersections of Cuban and Queer identities through non-traditional approaches in photography. Over the last several years, Martinez have developed hybrid photographic works that combine contact printing, solarization, and various experimental darkroom techniques. In the darkroom he also expose multi-layered mirror ball light projections, laser lights, and prisms onto the surfaces of the light sensitive photographic materials creating another layer of transformation, bridging nightclub aesthetics, Queer nightlife histories, and darkroom investigations.
Felicita Felli Maynard is a multidimensional artist, educator and community archivist based in New Orleans. Maynard works across photography, sculpture, sound, and installation. Their work explores the rituals and practices of survival and prosperity among descendants of the African Diaspora. They create work based in the imagination and ingenuity of the landscapes and identities that queer and trans descendants of the African Diaspora inhabit, shift and remap. Maynard earned an MFA in Photography from Tulane University and a BFA in Photography from CUNY Brooklyn College. Maynard has participated in numerous residencies and fellowships, including the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Haystack Mountain School of Craft, the Center for Photography in Woodstock, and the Joan Mitchell Center.
