Have you ever wanted to see your photographs represented in half tones and paint? Join artist MEG TURNER for a weekend of merging your two favorite mediums, photography and screenprinting! This crash course in silkscreen printing for photographers will walk students through the process of creating two kinds of prints: a single color halftone utilizing image and collage, and once students are comfortable printing, they will embark on a 4-color separation to create full-color hand-printed photographs in the same CMYK halftone dot method that you’ll find in photobook printing and magazines.
Students will learn how to turn their images from digital files, to film positives, to unique screen printed images. On day one, students will meet at CPW for discussion and work at CPW’s digital media lab to create digital transparencies. On days two and three, students will meet at Kingston-based Neighborhood Print Studio where they will partake in preparing and exposing their screens, followed by printing with silkscreen ink on paper.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
MEG TURNER is a printmaker, photographer and installation artist specializing in analog modes of printing and photography. She is particularly interested in the history of photomechanical processes used in mass image production, from photogravure and wet plate collodion to off-set lithography, silkscreen and digital publication. Her work and portraiture show the world through a queer maximalist lens. Meg received her B.F.A. in printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008 and M.F.A. from Columbia University in 2016 where she was a Leroy Neimen Center for Print Studies Print Fellow. Turner moved to New Orleans in 2009 and currently teaches printmaking at Tulane University.
