Since 1999, CPW’s artist residency program, Woodstock AIR, has significantly expanded diversity in the field of photography. Founded to support artists of color who have been historically excluded from mainstream opportunities, this residency provides emerging photographers with financial support and a month of time and space to break new ground, advance their artistic vision, or complete ongoing projects.
The current political climate has dramatically impacted both CPW and the artists we champion. In 2025, CPW lost congressionally approved NEA funding for Woodstock AIR, annual funding that has sustained the program since its inception. Despite this setback, CPW’s commitment to Woodstock AIR remains. Starting in 2026, CPW is expanding the program to host 20 artists over a 12-month period, thereby doubling the number of residencies and prioritizing women of color. Each artist will receive an artist stipend, month-long lodging, and studio space in both our AIR house in Woodstock and at CPW in Kingston.
This is where you can help. CPW is currently working to raise $150,000 for 2026 Woodstock AIR, which includes the costs outlined above, the jury selection process, and CPW administrative and outreach costs. Your support at any level will help to assure that a diverse cross-section of today’s artistic community is able to meaningfully influence the future of photography.
Just a glimpse at a list of the over 195 phenomenal artists–including Keisha Scarville, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Deana Lawson, and Tommy Kha–who have completed residences will tell you everything! Many AIRs describe their residency as a turning point in their development as artists.
