Kingston, NY, June 18, 2024– The Center for Photography at Woodstock (CPW) is delighted to announce the return of its highly anticipated Second Annual Photobook and Zine Fair, set to take place July 6-7, 2024, at CPW, 25 Dederick Street, Kingston, NY. Curated by local book/zine artist and photographer Juan Madrid, this year’s Fair will showcase the creative talents of over 20 local publishers from the Hudson Valley and the Tri-state area, offering a fantastic opportunity for visual artists, bookmakers, and zine enthusiasts to gather in community and exploration.
Programming and highlights at the Fair will include:
- Exhibition of Photobooks and Zines: Discover photobooks and zines that highlight the unique perspectives and artistic expressions of over 20 local publishers. Engage with photographers, artists, and publishers to gain insights into their creative processes and inspirations.
- Workshops and Panels: A build-your-own-zine zone invites all ages to create a zine. On both days of the Fair, panel discussions will cover such topics as self-publishing, book design, and the future of photobooks and zines.
- Reading Room: Connect with fellow photography enthusiasts, collectors, and community members in a welcoming and inspiring environment featuring publications from college students throughout the Northeast United States.
At the Fair, photography books and zines will be available for sale, as well as food and beverages.
In addition to the Fair’s table presentations by publishers and exhibitors, CPW will convene two panel discussions over the weekend–both free and open to the public. The first, moderated by Martha Naranjo Sandoval (of Matarile Ediciones), Jordanna Kalman, Raymond Meeks, and violet, is Navigating Challenges in Photobook Creation: Insights from Artists and Publishers; it will take place on Saturday, July 6, 11:00 am–12:00 noon. This conversation will dive into the intricacies of photobook creation. Panelists will share their experiences in concept development, design, production, and distribution of the photobook, offering valuable insights into the creative process and the practicalities of bringing a vision to life. The second panel, moderated by Veronica Melendez (of La Horchata), Amanda Chestnut, and Vladimir Nahitchevansky (of 1080PRESS), is Empowering Communities Through Independent Publishing: Uniting Artists, Publishers, and Activists; it will take place on Sunday, July 7, 11:00 am–12:00 noon. It will explore how grassroots and community oriented publishing methods are not only shaping literary landscapes but also serving as catalysts for group mobilization and activism.
A kick-off party for the Photobook & Zine Fair weekend will take place at Kingston’s Unicorn Bar, on Friday, July 5, 8:30-11:30 pm. All-day activities on Saturday, July 6, run 11:00 am–5:00 pm; Sunday’s activities run 11:00 am–5:00 pm.

The Hudson Valley is a hub of creativity, and the CPW Photobook & Zine Fair is above all a celebration of the innovative artistic spirit that thrives here.”

About the Center for Photography at Woodstock
Founded in 1977, the Center for Photography at Woodstock (CPW) is a not-for-profit arts organization with a two-fold mission: to support artists working in photography and related media; and to engage audiences through creation, discovery, and learning. At the heart of CPW’s mission is programming that is community-based, artist-centered, and collaborative. To foster conversation around critical issues in photography, CPW provides exhibitions, workshops, artists’ residencies, and public programming. In 2022, CPW relocated from Woodstock to 474 Broadway in Kingston.
