In this one-day workshop, students will reflect upon their work through the eyes of two exceptional Magnum photographers, SABIHA ÇIMEN and CAROLYN DRAKE. Sabiha and Carolyn will guide students through the process of strengthening a body of work through careful editing, offering both thought-provoking feedback and further contextualization within the larger framework of photography and the history of the medium. Whether finalizing an edit for a publication, tightening up a portfolio for reviews, or just wondering what to make of a body of work in progress, Sabiha and Carolyn will help you through the difficult process of determining what should stay, what can be left behind, and where to go next.
WHAT TO BRING: We recommend that you bring whatever you are working on that needs sequencing, editing, or fresh eyes. Examples include portfolios, book dummies, personal projects that need perspective, submission ideas, story pitches. Small prints, books, accompanying texts, and digital files are all welcome.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:
SABIHA ÇIMEN is a self-taught photographer, focusing on women, Islamic culture, portraiture, and still life. In 2025, Çimen was awarded a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship in Photography. For her debut book, Hafiz (2021), she received the Paris Photo/Aperture First PhotoBook Award.Çimen joined Magnum Photos in 2020, became an associate member in 2022, and a full member in 2024. She lives between Istanbul and New York.
CAROLYN DRAKE works on long-term, photo-based projects, seeking to interrogate dominant historical narratives and creatively reimagine them. Her practice embraces collaboration, and melds photography with sewing, collage, and sculpture. She is interested in collapsing the traditional divides between author and subject, as well as the real and the imaginary. Her work has been supported by a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Peter S. Reed Foundation, Light Work, the Lange-Taylor Prize, a Fulbright Fellowship and the Henri Cartier-Bresson Award, among others. She became a full member of Magnum Photos in 2019.
