The Artist Book: Binding Structures & Techniques

In this immersive workshop led by JACKSON HARDIN, participants will learn a range of foundational bookbinding structures—including demonstrations on pamphlet sewing, accordion variations, drum-leaf binding, and link-stitch binding—culminating in the construction of a case-bound hardcover book. Participants will learn about bookbinding papers and materials for book arts; gain an understanding of paper grain, handling, and cutting; explore a variety of adhesives and their uses, and develop the hands-on skills needed to plan and execute their own bookbinding projects. By day’s end, participants will leave with several sample structures, a finished handmade book, and the confidence to continue exploring the hand-bound artist book. No prior experience required.
