Please join us for an inspiring evening of artist presentations by a selection of CPW’s advanced members. Each photographer is a powerful imagemaker in their own right. The fast-paced evening will allow the audience to immerse themselves in compelling art work currently being made in the region and beyond. While most of the featured artists live in the Hudson Valley, some herald from as far as Connecticut and Louisiana.
About the Artists:
ALEYA LEHMANN BENCH
“Over the past several years my creative practice has transitioned from painting to photography with my training as a painter informing my work in important ways. The photographs I’ll show at CPW represent the trajectory of an ongoing series which began in early 2012, when I embarked on a long-term studio project with a model to explore figurative imagery and narrative, involving long exposures and carefully choreographed motion. SARRAH DANZIGER is a photographer and music video director based in New Orleans. Her work explores the wild woman archetype, non-binary representations, queer culture and death. Sarrah maintains a conceptual yet spontaneous eye when creating her images, using collaboration and empathy to inform her approach and bring her visions to life. Employing a mythological lens with which she sees the world, Sarrah offers a glimpse at a dream utopia where people can express themselves freely and without judgement. www.sarrahdanziger.com

Using landscapes as a metaphoric, emotive language, ELIZA MCNALLY has created a psychological bridge in these photos between a lonely, yet chaotic childhood and a more stable, fulfilled life as an urban woman. Using painterly devices and the contrasting metaphors of nature vs. man made objects, McNally hopes to evoke a visceral response in the viewer that resonates and forms a connection with the reality of her personal experience. www.esmdigitalart.com

KAREN PEARSON, a commercial photographer by trade and voyeur by choice, she finds her joy in capturing and representing the people and experiences she encounters. She looks to analyze relationships and stories in her frame through graphic composing and lighting. SAM SCOGGINS
“Embracing my official status in the U.S.A. as a Legal Alien, I aim to bring the curiosity of an outsider to my explorations of the inhabitants and environment of Kingston and the surrounding areas of Upstate New York. Looking for signs of the zeitgeist, I notice that it is not just me that is the alien – the town seems to be full of strange people.” www.samscoggins.com

CARLA SHAPIRO has been a visual artist working in photography for over 25 years. She has created bodies of work about women, aging, longing, 9/11, beauty and decay. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally, and she has received many awards including the Fellowship Fund from the Center for Photography at Woodstock, the Golden Light Award at Maine Photographic Workshops, New Jersey Council on the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, and the O’Conner Foundation. www.carlashapiro.com

MIKE ANDREW YOOD‘s work has been featured nationally and internationally.
