Spring Affair

Dave Jordano

CURATOR’S STATEMENT

The coronavirus has sabotaged our livelihoods including employment, health, and human social contact and has created isolation, seclusion and desolation. The situation became critical at a time when we were ready to break out of winter into the rejuvenation, renewal, beauty, color and flora that spring brings. The virus has already taken thousands of lives, among them key players in the art world.

Ruben Natal-San Miguel has organized a series of online exhibitions that will provide help to organizations and artists: a sincere and genuine collaboration that will become a celebration of the spring season. Using the word “spring” in the titles of the four curated exhibitions, each one showcases the beauty created by artists as a way to escape this cruel reality that we are all experiencing and provide an outlet for collectors to support their favorite artists and discover new ones at different price levels.

“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming” — Pablo Neruda

SPRING AFFAIR is an online exhibition of photography and mixed-media artworks presented by The Center for Photography at Woodstock and curated by Ruben Natal-San Miguel. Inspired by Donna Summer’s song “Spring Affair” from her album Four Seasons of Love, the exhibition combines the optimism of disco with a celebration of springtime’s sense of rebirth, renewal, and hope for the future.

Special thanks go to Ruben, participating artists and our sponsors, Red River Papers and Epson USA.

SPRING AFFAIR is part of a series of online exhibitions Natal-San Miguel has curated surrounding the theme of Spring. Other shows include SPRING FEVER at Treat Gallery,  SPRING FORWARD at Arcade Gallery and A LIGHT EXISTS IN SPRING at Gallery 52. At a time when the cultural community is severely hurting, these fundraisers offer expressions of hope, caring, and direct support to artists and art venues.
