The Center for Photography at Woodstock (CPW) invites you to join us for the closing reception of Wild Place: People of Kingston and artist talk with noted photographer Doug Menuez on July 16 at 6:00 pm. Menuez will discuss the exhibition and his ongoing project of the same title followed by a Q&A portion with CPW’s Co-Chair Barry Mayo. The talk will take place on Saturday, July 16 at 6:00 pm at Rezny Gallery at 76 Prince Street in Kingston.

CPW would like to greatly thank everyone who attended the opening of Wild Place: People of Kingston, held at CPW and Rezny Gallery. With soaring numbers, we were able to celebrate the debut of our new facilities as well as the community of Kingston. A special thank you to Nicki Tha Great for an incredible performance, Charles Guice for his fantastic curation, and for Rezny Gallery for hosting our inaugural opening!
Kingston, NY – CPW is pleased to announce the exhibition, Wild Place: People of Kingston, showcasing works by local photographer Doug Menuez at CPW’s new location in Kingston, NY. This solo show brings together photographs and interviews from Menuez’s ongoing project of the same title, documenting the residents of a city in flux.
Each week, Kingston grows with new arrivals, young people, families, and retirees arriving from other areas throughout the United States. But as Kingston relishes its newfound revitalization, local neighborhoods struggle with the rising challenges of gentrification and income disparity. Wild Place: People of Kingston shares the stories of a diverse range of people who call Kingston their home and serves as a continuation of the extensive dialogue that exists locally about the challenges ahead.
Wild Place: People of Kingston was guest curated by Charles Guice, co-founder of Converging Perspectives, art advisor, curator, mentor and writer. The exhibition’s opening will coincide with the debut of CPW’s new Kingston facilities in Midtown on April 30, 2022 from 5-7pm. Wild Place: People of Kingston will be on view at Rezny Gallery at 76 Prince Street and CPW’s new offices, gallery, and digital lab at 474 Broadway in Kingston.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Doug Menuez is an American photographer, director, and artist whose varied career over 40 years has ranged from photojournalism to commissioned work, documentary, and fine art projects. His methodology has since evolved to employ a traditional documentary approach that allows for intuitive investigation. The driving concern behind all his work is to explore and reflect the realities of the human condition.
Menuez and his wife Tereza currently live in Kingston, New York, where he is pursuing a long-term project documenting his community.

CPW’s exhibitions are free and open to the public due to the continued support from the New York State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Art, Joy of Giving Something, the Phillip and Edith Leonian Foundation, our members and other supporters.
This exhibition will also be viewable as a virtual walkthrough via Matterport, made possible with funds from the NYSCA Electronic Media/Film in Partnership with Wave Farm: Media Arts Assistance Fund, and the New York State Legislature.
