Kingston Photo Festival: Workshops

Cyanotype Studio with Viktorsha Uliyanova

Learn the magical power of the sun as it transforms your objects into photographic images. This workshop is led by Russian-born artist Viktorsha Uliyanova, whose cyanotype photographs explore her immigrant experience. Bring flowers, leaves, tchotchkes, and doo-dads– anything that you would like to see made into a beautiful blue picture! Participants will leave with a cyanotype photogram. 

FREE. Ages 12 and up. All materials will be provided.

Two sessions each day: Saturday, July 22, and Sunday, July 23
11:30am-1:30pm and 2:30pm-4:30pm.


Tintype Portraits by Tom Delooza

Sit for your unique tintype portrait with Tom Delooza. DeLooza has been working with the wet plate collodion process since 2004. In addition to making his art, he has led several tutorials, workshops, and given lectures to revive an appreciation for this wonderful process. Each session will last 20 minutes. Final images can be picked up at CPW or mailed to you following the event.

Tintype portrait session: $70/CPW members $60. No reservations required.

Dog Portraits by Shannon Greer

Your pooch is your best friend, your heart and soul’s companion, right? Bring him/her to the Kingston Photo Festival for a Wegman-esque portrait by Hudson-based photographer Shannon Greer, and leave with an 8 x 10 print.

Stop by and sign up directly. Sessions every 15 minutes.

Shades of Blue: Collaborative Cyanotype Quilt Workshop for Teens with Ivan Forde

“Shades of Blue” is a teen art-making workshop led by New York-based artist Ivan Forde. Participants will collectively create a large-scale quilt, gain familiarity with the cyanotype process, and learn how blue as a global language creates space for reflection, meditation, and healing across visual art, poetry, and music. The final piece will be displayed at the festival on July 23 from 1-5pm where we welcome family and friends to come celebrate with the participants!

Ivan Forde is a contemporary artist based in New York City, working across photography, printmaking, collage, sound performance, and installation.

FREE. Ages 13 – 19.


SCREENPRINTING with D.R.A.W.

Stop by D.R.A.W’s ( The Department of Regional Art Workers) screenprinting booth to make a screenprint, and learn about how to incorporate screenprinting into your photography. Bring any fabric to print on: a t-shirt, a sheet, a canvas tote.

Kids Do-It-Yourself Photobooth with CPW staff

How fun would it be for your young person to make photographs of their very own? Big kids and little kids alike are welcome to try portrait and still-life photography in our hands-on photo studio! Costumes, wigs and props available to make photos of all kinds. Stop by this booth and leave with a 4 x 6 photograph.
