This month’s Photo Club features a screening of Between Worlds from Art21’s Art in the Twenty-First Century series. We’ll gather at 6pm for light refreshments and a chance to connect with others. The film begins at 7pm.
Between Worlds follows four artists who bridge the complex histories of colonization and migration, finding common ground and breaking down seemingly fixed divisions. Sophie Calle blurs boundaries between art and life through conceptual work exploring desire, loss, and the everyday. Lubaina Himid, a pioneer of the 1980s Black Arts Movement in the UK, creates vibrant paintings that surface forgotten histories and assert the presence of people often erased from memory. Tuan Andrew Nguyen uses film and sculpture to collaborate with Vietnamese communities worldwide, retrieving lost narratives of displacement and war. Dyani White Hawk weaves together Lakota beadwork traditions and modernist painting, honoring the multiple lineages that shape American art. The episode illustrates the capacity of art to unite a world that often feels divided.
