Here are a few of our highlights for 2021:
- We brought the community together with our Members Show 2021, with over 75 artists in a salon-style exhibition featuring a plethora of photographic styles and techniques, showcasing the diversity and contrast of CPW’s membership.
- Showcased artists, both local and national, through our exhibitions.
- Honored artists Meryl Meisler and Paul Mpagi Sepuya by presenting them the 2021 Affinity Awards, celebrating their rich and engaging work that exemplifies how artists inspire and connect us.
- Held a variety of virtual artist talks and expanded CPW’s virtual exhibition walkthrough catalogue, bringing artists closer to the greater community through engaging discussion and increased accessibility.
- We relaunched the 2021 Professional Practices Artist Network (PPAN), featuring presentations from Clinton Cargill, Madeleine Cutrona, Kris Graves, W.M. Hunt, Aline Smithson, Mary Virginia Swanson, and Susana Torruella Leval that empower artists by strengthening their creative skill sets and providing feedback through a supportive networking cohort.
- Continue to expand on CPW’s artist and community-oriented programs such as our virtual Photographers’ Salon, Advanced Member Portfolio Reviews, resuming our in-person Internship Program, and a variety of additional artist engagement initiatives.
- Received $25,000 in support from the National Endowment of the Arts, directly supporting our residency program WOODSTOCK AIR.
- We are in the final stages of transitioning from our prior home at 59 Tinker Street in Woodstock, NY to CPW’s new location at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY.
As we settle into our new location and reflect on the previous year, we aim our attention towards 2022 as CPW continues to provide direct support to a diverse cadre of artists and engage with the community and new audiences. We are excitedly preparing for a dynamic 2022 exhibition season in CPW’s new location at 474 Broadway in Kinston, NY, beginning with a solo exhibition featuring photography by Doug Menuez, opening our artist-in-residence call, restarting our Photographers Fellowship Fund, unveiling CPW’s 2022 PPAN Network, and a variety of new artist initiatives.
Our successes are the direct result of the support from foundations, public grants, strategic efforts and diligence by CPW’s staff and board, and donations from the community large and small. This has proven the year of flexible thinking. We owe endless thanks and gratitude to the friends who have stood by us in times of need.
